Understanding the mystical creature that is Boris Johnson has concerned lots of top minds for years. What are his ambitions? What makes him tick? And what’s underneath that rough, flustered exterior?
Well, in some candid remarks made to New York magazine, it appears we’re a step closer to finding out. Boris likes London because it’s full of totty and he wants ‘supreme power’ in the UK.
Promoting his book Johnson’s Life of London, the Mayor said: “We seek cities because there are a greater range of girls at the bar, of reproductive choice. But above all, talented people seek cities for fame. They can’t get famous in the f***ing village.â€
He admitted: “That’s what drives me. That’s the awful fact.â€
As well as confessing that he likes living in London because of the choice of girls at the bar (ahem), the Mayor’s ambition to build a new airport for London also came to the fore. He told the reporter: “One of the only reasons I want to assume supreme power in England is to make sure that happens.”
‘Supreme power’? Beats being ‘reincarnated as an olive’, eh Boris?
There was a pause, before the Mayor added: “For God’s sake, don’t quote me saying that.” Hmm. Whoops.
